Good morning ladies and gentlemen,
It is such an honour and privilege to be standing on behalf of Media Convergency in front your esteemed presence at this event where we are specifically here to launch the Digital NGO Report titled, “An overview of the Digital Ecosystem, Emerging and Applied Technologies on NGOs in Tanzania”.
Without further ado I would like to thank our Guest of Honour, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Dr. Faustine Ndugulile for his time and support through gracing us with his presence at the Digital NGO Report launch.
Also, I would like to acknowledge the presence of our esteemed panelists for today; who are not only experts in Innovation, Information and Technology but also a part of pioneers who are in one way or another pushing boundaries in bringing forth digital transformation for our country. I am so excited and look forward to having their abundant powerful informative insights. Our panelists are Christine Musisi the Country representative from UNDP, Semkae Kilonzo, the Executive Director at Policy Forum, Diana Ninsiima the Country Director from DOT Tanzania, Mike Mushi the Executive Director at Jamii Media and Nelson Malekela the Founding Partner at IPF Softwares.
I would also like to recognise the esteemed presence of representatives from the embassies and development partners, the esteemed presence of the NGO leaders and decision makers from more than twenty organisations in this room, the esteemed presence of the players from the innovation and tech-ecosystem as well as Media partners.
At Media Convergency, we drink on Information and strive on Technology. The study that gave us this report was stimulated from Media Convergency’s grasp on the Digital Gaps in most organisations and not only non-governmental organisations in Tanzania. We started with the NGO as one of the identified entities we wished to serve because they have great potential for Digital Transformation. We have been working on this for the last six months. We first intended to do the study in October 2020 with intent to have the report launched in November 2021 (I guess that was too ambitious); for due to unavoidable circumstances that was not possible. Nine months later we have achieved the intent, with abundant cooperation from the community.
The NGOs and their representatives that we had reached out to, were very supportive, cooperative and portrayed interest and excitement to be part as well as know results to the study. It gives us a pleasure to have had that opportunity and now presenting what we found. This study would have not been possible without the support of the twenty (20) organisations, the variety of experts in the field, government officials from The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), and the Media Convergency team who worked diligently on the study.
Special thanks to the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology’s vested interest, recommendations and support towards achieving the results of the study with conviction as the right approach towards adaption of Digital Economy in Tanzania across all sectors.
While we have not directly mentioned names of every single person who has been fundamental to the success of this report, nevertheless, Media Convergency extends sincere gratitude to each one of them.
We look forward to collaborative efforts, partnerships, holistic-Innovative solutions and being part of the digital transformative journey in an impactful way.
Thank you for listening.
